A 78-year-old former attorney convicted of a 1980 triple murder has been granted compassionate release due to a terminal cancer diagnosis, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office said Thursday, Feb. 16.
Former attorney and co-founder of the Hessian Motorcycle Club Thomas Maniscalco was found guilty but denied playing a role in the Westminster slayings of 36-year-old Richard Rizzone, 28-year-old Thomas Monahan, and 19-year-old Rena Miley, the OCDA said in a press release. He carried out the killings alongside fellow biker Daniel Duffy, they added.
“Maniscalco and Duffy carried out the executions because Maniscalco believed Rizzone was ripping him off in his counterfeiting and meth distribution ring. The murder of Rizzone resulted in the brutal executions of Miley and Monahan because there were to be no witnesses,” OCDA said in the release.
The OCDA, which said it opposes the compassionate release, said Maniscalco will be released within “48 hours,” but it was not immediately clear what the exact date of his release will be.
As of Thursday evening, jail records indicated Maniscalco was incarcerated at Mule Creek State Prison in Northern California.
Maniscalco is set to be released to his daughter’s care in San Jose, the press release added.
