Local FFA high school students and 4-H Club members showcased on Saturday at the OC Fair the animals they have spent the last several months or more doting on.
Several Orange County high schools have FFA programs, once called Future Farmers of America, with students learning about agriculture and livestock careers. Many students raise cows, goats, lambs, hogs, turkeys and more, spending hours feeding and caring for them daily and preparing them for showing.
There are also several 4-H Clubs in the region that offer similar experiences. Saturday’s Junior Livestock Auction was the culmination of their efforts; many also spent time at the fair answering questions and educating fairgoers about the animals.
Throughout the OC Fair’s run until Aug. 13, there will be various animal exhibits and demonstrations, including dairy cow and camel milking demonstrations, miniature donkey breeding competitions and rabbit and cavy showcases.
The fair is open Wednesdays through Sundays, and there is the livestock area, Centennial Farm and other agricultural and hobby-related exhibitions areas to visit. Get more information at ocfair.com.
