An all-female crew of in-your-face athletes are aiming to wow audiences with high octane action and insane acrobatic moves at The Belasco in Downtown Los Angeles this month with four nights of intense wrestling matches.
“I am on a 10-week winning streak currently. So anybody who is new to WOW and they want to prove themselves and enter the singles division they have to go through me first. And I won’t go down lightly,” said Kandi Krush, one of the more than three dozen athletes who make up the WOW – Women Of Wrestling league, which is holding several matches at the theater on Dec. 11-14.
The event will be recorded as part of season two of “WOW – Women Of Wrestling,” which airs Saturdays on KCAL-TV.
Krush came to wrestling from boxing, so she can knock out opponents both with her fists and her signature move known as “Lights Out,” a slam move that will send her opponents to bed early, whether they like it or not.
“Once I hit that, it’s over. It’s lights our for my opponent,” she said. “And I’m the CEO of let’s go as well so I’m always ready to go toe-to-toe.”
While Krush will be trying to keep her winning streak intact, Coach Campanelli, another WOW wrestler who will be taking part in trio tag team matches, will be handing out coaching advice and possibly a few beat downs as well.
“Pretty much everything I pick up sport-wise or athletically, I master,” she said. “So doing what it takes to win is my strategy.”
For the wrestler, these competitions aren’t just about winning, but also about setting an example for others to follow.
“It means a lot to be able to show other young women what strength looks like and be able to empower the future generation,” Krush said. “We’ve been asked before, ‘Would you wrestle men?’ And we like to say why? Why would I do that when I have the best right here. I want to wrestle the best, I want to prove I am the best of the best and to me that’s women’s wrestling…
