On Wednesday morning, May 15, students, staff and administrators at Verdugo Hills High School gathered to celebrate a quantum leap forward in access to science equipment at the school in Tujunga.
“How do we celebrate the groundbreaking of an $18 million construction project at Verdugo Hills High School? With music, of course,” said LAUSD Superintendent Alberto Carvalho, in a statement on X. “We currently have $8 billion worth of capital investments across Los Angeles Unified School District. Thank you community.”
The Verdugo Hills Marching Band gave a rousing performance at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new classrooms, instructional support spaces, accessible restrooms and state-of-the-art equipment and technology for Science, Technology Engineering, Math and Multimedia Magnet students.
Board of Education Member Kelly Gonez, Verdugo Hills Senior High School Principal Arturo Barcenas and Chief Facilities Executive Krisztina Tokes also joined to commemorate the start of construction on the new facilities, which are slated to be completed in 2026.
