Singer Halsey and actress Catherine O’Hara will share the role of Sally when Danny Elfman takes over the Hollywood Bowl for three 30th anniversary performances of Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” the production announced Monday, Oct. 9.
Actor-musician Fred Armisen will play the role of Lock, actor-singer Riki Lindholme will play Shock, and Ken Page returns as Ooogie Boogie, according to a statement from the producers with details of the casting for the shows slated for Oct. 27-29.
Elfman, who composed the songs and score for “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” will perform the role of Jack Skellington during the live shows to accompany screenings of the film at the Hollywood Bowl take place.
Halsey, a Grammy-nominated alternative pop singer, will play Sally on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 27-28. Catherine O’Hara, an Emmy winner as Moira Rose on “Schitt’s Creek,” appears on Sunday, Oct. 29 as Sally, a role she’s played in past “Nightmare” shows at the Bowl.
Fred Armisen, best known for his years in the cast of “Saturday Night Live,” will play Lock all three nights. In past years, the late Paul Reubens, best known as Pee-wee Herman, handled that part.
The rest of the main cast includes Ken Page as Oogie Boogie, a role he played in the 1993 film as well as past live shows at the Bowl. Singer-actress Riki Lindhome will play Shock for the Friday and Saturday performances, with O’Hara doubling up to play both Shock and Sally on Sunday.
The shows will also feature vocalists Randy Crenshaw, Angie Jarée, Baraka May, Greg Proops and Fletcher Sheridan. Violinist Sandy Cameron is back again with the Skeleton Trio Entr’acte. And a choir and orchestra led by conductor John Mauceri will back everyone.
