The Port of Los Angeles has released its initial document — the first step in what will be an environmental review process — for a proposed truck and chassis parking lot on John S. Gibson Boulevard, in San Pedro, a location not on POLA property but near the port complex.
The proposed project, 1599 John S. Gibson Blvd., would create an 18.63-acre paved, striped, fenced and landscaped lot offering short-term truck and chassis (with or without containers) parking.
Space for needed chassis and containers has been an ongoing issue at the port as cargo volumes have grown, impacting some local neighborhoods, especially in Wilmington.
Vehicles or equipment would not be anticipated to remain on the site for more than 24 hours.
The proposed project includes paving a portion of the site and striping approximately 393 truck and chassis stalls. It would require an amendment to the Port of Los Angeles Master Plan.
The “Initial Study/Notice of Preparation” document can be viewed at portoflosangeles.org/ceqa.
The document is intended to solicit feedback to help identify any potential environmental impacts and suggest possible alternatives that can be incorporated into what will be the subsequent “Draft Environmental Impact Report.”
The port will hold a virtual public meeting to receive comments at 4 p.m Tuesday, Nov. 14, via Zoom.
Simultaneous Spanish translation services will be provided.
The comment period will remain open through Dec. 11.
Written comments on the current document can be submitted via email to [email protected] or mailed to: Director of Environmental Management, Los Angeles Harbor Department, 425 S. Palos Verdes St., San Pedro CA 90731.
