San Pedro’s waterfront will be hopping this summer.
Among the brand new offerings will be SailGP (Grand Prix) — billed as the “Formula One” of sailing events in the Port of Los Angeles’s Outer Harbor July 22-23.
Elite sailing teams and athletes will compete in the high-speed sail racing event that also brings in live entertainment. Go to the SailGP website. It’s the first time the event is being held in Los Angeles.
But that’s not all.
Launching out from the recent Memorial Day weekend and running through Labor Day, the Port of Los Angeles will host many of the familiar favorites, from Fourth of July fireworks to car shows and the Labor Day Conquer the Bridge run.
With work now started on what will be a new waterfront attraction — West Harbor — and the port’s cruise offerings ramping up to year-round status, the working port is fast becoming a draw for recreation and entertainment.
LA Fleet Week, which just wrapped up, kicked it all off, with a preliminary estimate of about 40,000 people over the course of the Memorial Day weekend event.
