The Port of Los Angeles will resume its summer internship program after a three-year hiatus and is now accepting applications, the seaport announced on Monday, March 13.
College-enrolled student interns who participate in the program gain hands-on experience working at the port, according to a POLA statement. Student interns will be given assignment opportunities in different fields, such as engineering, marketing and real estate.
The Port of Los Angeles, which has historically been the busiest in the nation, plans to hire up to 60 summer interns, according to POLA spokesperson Phillip Sanfield.
The program is open to current undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in on-the-job skill building and networking. The 10-week program will begin June 5 and run through Aug. 11.
Interns may work up to 40 hours per week and should be available to work on-site at the Port of Los Angeles’s administration building, or port facilities in San Pedro or Wilmington, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.
Summer interns will earn $18.42 to $22.91 an hour, based on their specific assignment. Applications will be accepted until March 31.
Those interested in joining the summer internship program, must fill out an official city of Los Angeles application and a student worker questionnaire, and submit a resume and unofficial college transcripts.
The application website is at bit.ly/427kLy4.
