A celebration of the Lunar New Year at the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration in downtown Los Angeles on Friday, Feb. 16, was co-hosted by Los Angeles County Supervisors Lindsey Horvath and Hilda Solis.
LAPD Assistant Chief Dominic Choi, who will become interim chief on March 1, spoke about how his Korean-American family celebrated the holiday when he was a kid, saying it was his parents’ attempt at instilling culture and tradition in their children.
“This time of year is not just a time for festivities but it is also a time for reflecting, renewal and reconnecting with loved ones,” Choi said.
“Tradition and culture is so important. It is our differences in those experiences when we come together that makes us stronger,” he added. The event also included a dragon dance and food.
