Homeless students in the Los Angeles Unified School District and their families can now take advantage of a free mobile laundry service.
As part of its latest iAttend event – where LAUSD staff reach out to students or their families, including through home visits, to boost student attendance – the district promoted the laundry service during a news conference at Ninth Street Elementary School in downtown L.A. on Friday, Feb. 16.
Once a week, a mobile laundry truck visits the school, where 40% of the students face homelessness.
The laundry service is part of a multi-layered approach to supporting students and families facing homelessness, according to LAUSD officials. The district also provides healthy nutrition options, clothing boutiques, special transportation services, tutoring and other assistance.
