Rolling in mere days before the top Republican presidential candidates will arrive to draw the nation’s political spotlight on Southern California, First Lady Jill Biden touched down in Los Angeles to raise funds for her husband’s reelection campaign.
The Democratic first lady arrived in Beverly Hills on Saturday, Sept. 23, to spotlight achievements of her husband’s administration at a private home.
The appearance was her next-to-last to last stop in her West Coast swing. Earlier in the week, she spoke at Biden Victory Fund events in Seattle, Washington. After her speech, she trekked to Hollywood Burbank airport and on to San Diego for the final event. The fundraiser was hosted days before top GOP candidates swoop into Southern California for the second Republican presidential debate and the state’s GOP convention.
“Over the years I’ve been continually inspired by his resilience and his optimism,” Jill Biden told about 45 people gathered for a fundraiser at the home of Daphna Ziman, co-founder and president of Cinémoi USA and the founder of Children Uniting Nations.
“He has an unshakable hope in the future of our country,” she added. “Anyone can tell you what they want to do, but Joe can tell you what he’s done.”
Jill Biden is no stranger to Southern California, having made multiple appearances here, including a visit to the Homeboy Industries nonprofit job-training complex last year and delivering the keynote address at Los Angeles City College’s commencement. She has also accompanied her husband to such events at the Summit of the Americas.
She said her husband’s leadership helped pass climate change legislation, appointed Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court and battled Big Pharma and won, decreeing lower prices for prescription drugs and a cap on the price of insulin.
“He did this all with integrity, humanity, and wisdom because that’s who he is, but there’s so much more we need to do,” Biden said.
