In-N-Out Burger is on the verge of hitting a milestone as it wraps up a big year.
The Irvine-based chain is nearing 400 locations. It will open its 399th at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, according to a news release.
That restaurant is at 31791 Del Obispo St. in San Juan Capistrano. It will look a little different from most In-N-Outs. Its exterior will be in Mission Revival style to be compatible with historic structures in the neighborhood. Late last year, In-N-Out opened a restaurant with a similar style in San Clemente.
On Nov. 30, In-N-Out opened a drive-thru at 229 Old Nuevo Road along the 215 Freeway in Perris.
In-N-Out has added two Southern California locations to the “opening soon” page on its website. One is at 1301 W. Lugonia Ave., Redlands, which was expected because of a sign that was briefly posted on its construction site.
The other is at 13864 Foothill Blvd., Sylmar.
Restaurants are usually at or near the construction phase but eight to 10 months from opening when In-N-Out puts them on its website. Sometimes cities hold hearings on permit applications for new restaurants months or years out, as is the case with a proposed drive-thru in Orange.
All restaurants are company-owned.
In-N-Out made national news throughout 2023, starting with the announcement of a major expansion into Tennessee and followed by a 75th anniversary festival that was in preparation for months.
In-N-Out has two more cities on its opening soon page: Madera the San Joaquin Valley and Meridian, Idaho, near Boise.
Meridian has been watching for the opening, and Boise station KTVB has reported that it could happen in two or three weeks.
