Though we’re in the thick of a hot summer in Southern California, construction for Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights is well underway.
The Universal City theme park announced three new walk-thru attractions coming to its annual scare-a-thon including The Exorcist: Believer, Chucky: Ultimate Kill Count and Universal Monsters: Unmasked.
HHN has done The Exorcist in the past, but this year’s maze will be based on the forthcoming film, “The Exorcist: Believer,” which will be out in theaters on Friday, Oct. 13. Horror fans will get a sneak peek — but not spoilers — of the film by walking through the life-like sets and props from the latest picture in that franchise.
Chucky, the smart-mouthed serial killer doll, has been a part of the HHN experience for years as he’s popped up in rooms within the mazes and taken over the Terror Tram, but the franchise hasn’t been given the official attraction treatment until now. Chucky: Ultimate Kill Count is inspired by the USA and SyFy series and the numerous cult classic films and finds Chucky feeling disrespected. His murderous peers don’t take him seriously and he’s about to change that by killing every person who enters his haunted house.
The creative team behind HHN will continue to honor the original Universal Monsters this haunting season with Universal Monsters: Unmasked. This time, guests will come face-to-face with The Phantom of the Opera, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde and The Invisible Man. These monsters are angry that the guests have disturbed their once peaceful catacombs to take selfies at post content on TikTok, so they’re lurking in the darkness, ready to pounce and lure unsuspecting guests deeper into their underground labyrinth with the promise of exclusive content.
As he’s done for several years now, Guns ‘N Roses guitarist Slash is creating an original score for Universal Monsters: Unmasked as well.
