Early voting is underway for residents of District 6, who will fill the empty seat on the Los Angeles City Council nearly six months after Councilmember Nury Martinez resigned in disgrace for making racist comments in a backroom meeting that was secretly recorded and leaked to the public.
Seven candidates for the position are listed on the District 6 ballot in this order: Isaac Kim, Imelda Padilla, Rose Grigoryan, Marisa Alcaraz, Antoinette Scully, Douglas Sierra and Marco Santana. They are vying for a powerful seat that represents a large swath of the San Fernando Valley including Arleta, Lake Balboa, North Hills, North Hollywood, Panorama City, Sun Valley and Van Nuys.
Voters can cast, or drop off, their ballots ahead of the Tuesday, April 4, special election at three vote centers in District 6. Vote centers open before Election Day will operate between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. On Tuesday, seven vote centers will open, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. For locations, visit clerk.lacity.gov/elections.
Residents voting by mail have until Election Day to mail in their ballot. If the ballot is postmarked by Tuesday and received within seven days by the county registrar’s office, it will be counted.
Voters can also drop off ballots at any Ballot Drop Box within Council District 6 through Election Day.
