Driving around downtown Long Beach next weekend will be reserved for the professionals.
But if you must drive in the area, you’ll need to know which streets to avoid.
The city will begin closing streets on Wednesday, April 12, as officials make final preparations for the 2023 Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.
Long Beach’s biggest party will take place from Friday to Sunday, April 14-16, with more than 180,000 people expected to attend.

But with the concourse enveloping the area between Ocean Boulevard and Shoreline Drive, getting around downtown won’t be easy.
Whether you’re attending the Grand Prix or just have other plans downtown, you’ll need help navigating the area — though race officials urge folks to take public transportation instead.
So below is a breakdown of street closures and when they will begin.
Wednesday
The first Grand Prix street closures are:
- 4 a.m.: The side streets off Shoreline Drive and Seaside Way that lead into the concourse.
- 7 a.m.: Westbound Shoreline Drive, the Queensway Bridge’s northbound off‐ramp and its southbound on‐ramp from Shoreline Drive, and Aquarium Way.
- 3 p.m.: Eastbound Shoreline Drive from Broadway to Ocean Boulevard.
Pine Avenue, though, will remain open to motorists visiting the Hyatt, waterfront restaurants, Shoreline Village and Shoreline Marina tenants, the city said in a traffic advisory earlier this week.
The Aquarium of the Pacific ‘s parking structure will remain open on Wednesday and most of the day Thursday. But all vehicles must be out by 3 p.m. Thursday; the garage will remain closed until Monday, April 17.
Folks who want to park at Shoreline Village or use valet parking at waterfront restaurants via Pine Avenue should exit to the east through the Marina Green parking lot and follow the directional signage, the city said.
