Every year on Earth Day people are asked to think about nature and our planet and what they can do to help our world. The global environmental movement arrives on April 22 and there are many ways for people to participate, such as volunteering for an outdoor cleanup, or even going to a festival or even a fancy ball and having some fun while trying to help the planet.
So with Earth Day coming up, here are 12 things you can do to mark this very important day.
Catalina Island Conservancy Ball
6-11 p.m., April 20 at Avalon Casino Ballroom, 1 Casino Way, Avalon, catalinaconservancy.org.
Get dressed up, dig into those deep pockets for a good cause and attend the 28th annual ball. The black-tie event will include dinner, dancing and a live auction. Proceeds benefit island conservation, education and recreation programs. Tickets start at $500.
Earth Day at the Bay
10-a.m.-4 p.m., April 20 at 2301 University Drive, Newport Beach, ocparks.com.
OC Parks is teaming up with the Newport Bay Conservancy for the annual Earth Day at the Bay, which will include environmental-themed exhibits, arts and crafts and live music throughout the day plus food trucks.
Earth Day Celebration
8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m., April 20 at Crown Valley Park, 29751 Crown Valley Parkway, Laguna Niguel, cityoflagunaniguel.org.
The Niguel Botanical Preserve and the city of Laguna Niguel are looking for volunteers for the annual Earth Day Celebration. Volunteers are needed to plant, weed and clean in the Niguel Botanical Preserve. Volunteers can also take a little bit of nature home because plants and herbs will be available for sale in the Amphitheater. All proceeds go to support the Niguel Botanical Preserve.
Earth Day Chalk Fest
10 a.m.-2 p.m., April 20 at Wilmington Waterfront Park, 301 S. Avalon Blvd., Wilmington, portoflosangeles.org.
