Runners and walkers can sign up now for what will be the 14th annual Conquer the Bridge Race on Labor Day.
The 5.3-mile run/walk over the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro draws several thousand each year. In-person registration runs until Sunday, Sept. 3, and costs $55. Online registration closes Wednesday, Aug. 31, for individuals.
But participants also can sign up on the day of the race, Monday, Sept. 4, when the cost is $60.
Those signing up in advance can pick up their race packet “bibs” at Road Runner Sports, 25359 Crenshaw Blvd., in Torrance, where you can also register in-person and buy official T-shirts.
Hours for pickups are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The race, which has grown through the years, was dark in 2020 because of the pandemic and it could face planning challenges as Caltrans moves forward with a plan to close all or part of the bridge for road work beginning in 2025.
The race will begin and end at 511 S. Harbor Blvd., San Pedro, with the start time at 7 a.m.
Parking is available throughout town, including at the lot at 22nd and Miner streets, with trolley service to the starting line. But participants are encouraged to arrive early this year as the former Ports O’ Call parking won’t be available. Street parking is free — and meter fees are canceled on race day.

The weather, meanwhile, is set to be beautiful, with forecasts expecting high temperatures to be in the mid-70s on Monday.
Participants are expected to be at around 3,000 this year,
