Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum is coming home to perform during the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, and he’s bringing some very famous friends with him.
Grand Prix officials announced on Tuesday, Feb. 28 that former Long Beach-based musician is headlining the Saturday, April 15 nighttime concert with his band Kings of Chaos, which is made up of a rotating roster of well-known musicians.
This year, taking the stage as the Kings of Chaos and the Grand Prix’s headlining musical act are vocalists Corey Taylor of Slipknot, Corey Glover and Vernon Reid from Living Colour, Lzzy Hale, lead vocalist-guitarist of rock band Halestorm, plus Rome Ramirez of Long Beach’s Sublime with Rome.
The band itself includes guitarists Gilby Clarke of Guns N’ Roses, Billy Duffy of The Cult, Brent Woods formerly of Taylor Hawkins & The Coattail Riders, Megadeth bassist guitarist James LoMenzo and Sorum on drums.
“Kings of Chaos are excited to join this legendary event and we’re putting together a once-in-a-lifetime show to make it even more memorable for fans of live music. Fast cars and Rock N’ Roll,” Sorum said in a statement on Feb. 28.
The band will be performing for up to 10,000 Grand Prix ticketholders on the plaza in front of the Long Beach Performing Arts Center, adjacent to the Long Beach Convention Center starting at 6:30 p.m. The band previously headlined the Grand Prix in 2017.
The 2023 Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach will take place April 14-16 with more than 180,000 expected to attend the race, which is one of the city’s biggest events. Tickets range from $38 for Friday general admission to $175 for a three-day pass and can be purchased at gplb.com.
