Southern California residents can expect another powerful bout of rain to sweep through the area early Tuesday morning, Feb. 20, into Wednesday, with weather forecasters warning of potential flooding across numerous areas of greater Los Angeles and Orange counties and the Inland Empire.
But by Wednesday evening, the rainfall should be mostly if not completely gone.
Just through Monday afternoon, this week’s storm that started late Sunday had already dumped more than two inches of rain on some portions of L.A. County, according to rain totals observed by the National Weather Service.
But the deluge could continue into Wednesday night across most of Orange County and western portions of San Bernardino and Riverside counties, with the heaviest downpours expected in the Santa Ana and San Bernardino mountains.
Residents from Anaheim to Hemet can expect to see, in total from this storm, one and a half to two inches of rain through Wednesday, according to the NWS.
Across metropolitan L.A. County, totals could fall between two and five inches.
There’s the possibility of thunderstorms, mostly along the coast and in the valleys.
Forecasters still weren’t exactly sure which areas would see the most rain, but anyone living in southeast L.A. and northeast Orange counties should prepare to hunker down.
“Even with the event basically upon us, there are still some discrepancies amongst the available guidance, mainly in regard to the timing and placement of the heaviest precipitation,” the NWS said. “Overall consensus is for … the bulk of the heavy precipitation over Orange County into LA County.”
High surf advisories were in effect for all coastal areas of Southern California.
A brief dry spell could start late Wednesday, lasting through Friday.
Anyone hoping for an extended break from the rain into next week likely will be disappointed: The Weather Service said another round of rain is expected to begin this Saturday.
