A three-alarm fire in a Gaslamp Quarter building Friday night left 50 people displaced and prompted hundreds of attendees at a Comic-Con event to evacuate, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue officials and media reports.
The fire was reported around 7:30 p.m. at Rei Do Gado Brazilian Steakhouse on Fourth Avenue near Broadway, fire officials said. The plume of smoke was visible throughout the Gaslamp area, which was busy with convention attendees and weekend revelers alike.
NBC San Diego reported that flames from a kitchen fire made their way to the roof of the four-story building. The top three floors are residential and Airbnb units, and the 50 people staying in those sites were displaced, the station said.
The station also reported that the fire department evacuated a nearby building where 1,200 people were attending a Comic-Con event.
The fire was snuffed out in about an hour, the station reported.
