A fatal stabbing aboard a Metro A (Blue) Line train in downtown Long Beach apparently was not a random attack, with Long Beach police continuing to search for three suspects and investigating the motive, authorities said.
Investigators said they believe the victim, a man in his 20s, boarded a southbound train north of Long Beach on Wednesday afternoon and that the three men who attacked him boarded after the trolley entered the city, police said.
The three men approached the victim at some point and began fighting with him before one of the men pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times, police said.
Officers were called to the downtown Long Beach station in the 100 block of East First Street about 3:40 p.m. and found the victim on board. He died at a hospital.
Police asked that anyone who witnessed the attack or had video showing the suspects to call detectives Donald Collier or Chasen Contreras at 562-570-7244. Anonymous tips can be submitted to LA Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
