A 22-year-old man throwing out trash Sunday night, Jan. 28, was shot and killed in an unincorporated county neighborhood near Pico Rivera.

The shooting appears to be gang-related, sheriff’s Lt. Steve De Jong said.

The Sheriff’s Department received a call about gunshots in the 5700 block of Esperanza Avenue around 10 p.m.

The victim did not live at the home but was visiting friends, De Jong said.

He took trash to a dumpster at nearby Amigo Park, the lieutenant said, and when he was walking along the street to return to the house he was shot.

He died at the scene. The medical examiner’s office identified the man as Fernando Robledo Dominguez of Montebello.

Detectives don’t have a description of the suspect or suspects.

Investigators asked that anyone with information about the shooting to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Anonymous tipsters can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or at lacrimestoppers.org.
