How wet was it Sunday, Feb. 4, in downtown Los Angeles?
The 4.10 inches of rain blew away the highest recorded total for any Feb. 4, which previously was a mere 2.55 inches in 1927, according to the National Weather Service.
Since 1877, Sunday’s total was the third-highest for any February day. The highest was 4.80 in 1913.

The highest total ever was 5.88 inches on March 2, 1938. During that storm, the Los Angeles, San Gabriel and Santa Ana rivers overflowed their banks. An estimated 80 to115 people died, and, according to various media reports, the damage was into the tens of millions of dollars, according to various media accounts.
