PANORAMA CITY — Five people were hospitalized Monday with injuries ranging from serious to moderate — and a pet dog was killed — after flames ripped through a four-story apartment building in Panorama City.
Firefighters responded at 7:25 a.m. to the building at 9010 Tobias Ave. and reported smoke showing out of the apartment building.
By 8:15 a.m., firefighters had extinguished the fire, which damaged 10 of about 200 apartment units, making those units unlivable, according to LAFD. The American Red Cross assisted 16 displaced residents.
A total of 11 people were evaluated and treated by paramedics. Five of them were taken to a hospital — one listed in serious condition and the others in fair to moderate condition — and the remaining six declined further care. LAFD also reported a dog found dead at the scene.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
