Pasadena-based engineering and infrastructure firm Tetra Tech Inc. has racked up another major water project in the United Kingdom.
Tetra Tech announced late last month that United Utilities, one of the United Kingdom’s largest water utilities, has awarded the company a 10-year contract worth approximately $127 million to support the improvement of river health across the Northwest region of England.
Tetra Tech engineers and scientists will analyze options for projects to improve river health and then select the preferred options based on best value, lowest carbon emissions and cost.
Tetra Tech inherited a business relationship with United Utilities when it purchased Abingdon-on-Thames, United Kingdom-based RPS Group in late 2022 for $691 million. RPS had extensive environmental and infrastructure services contracts throughout the United Kingdom, as well as the rest of the European Union countries and Australia.
“Our RPS operations in England have provided United Utilities with high-end modeling, technical, operational, and critical infrastructure services for two decades,” said Dan Batrack, Tetra Tech’s chief executive.
This is the third water-services contract in the last eight months that Tetra Tech has secured in the United Kingdom through its RPS acquisition. In December, Tetra Tech announced a five-year contract from Ireland’s main water utility to support the utility’s forthcoming capital investment program. And in June, Scottish Water, Scotland’s publicly-owned water utility, awarded Tetra Tech’s RPS unit an eight-year contract worth about $75 million to provide comprehensive asset-management services.
Separately, Tetra Tech reported another strong revenue quarter for the three months ending on Dec. 31. Revenue reached $1.02 billion for the quarter, up 38% from the same quarter a year earlier. However, net income attributable to the company was $75 million, down from $117 million for the same quarter a yearw earlier.
