THE MONEY: Pomegranates pay the bills for Stewart and Lynda Resnick. Though the multibillionaire couple might not be top of mind for most consumers, their firm The Wonderful Co. is behind some of the most-consumed brands in fruit, nuts and beverages. Wonderful Co., which reported $5 billion in revenue as of August, owns the Fiji Water, POM Wonderful, and Wonderful Pistachios brands, among others. The couple also holds a majority stake in the Kern Water Bank underground reservoir, worth an estimated $1.7 billion. A spokesperson for the Resnicks confirmed the net worth number, which is higher than previously estimated.
THE BUZZ: When they’re not overseeing the hundreds of thousands of acres of farmland the Wonderful Co. manages nationwide, the Resnicks are focused on philanthropy. To date, the couple has donated $2.5 billion of personal and company money to local nonprofits and schools, with a focus on sustainability and clean-energy research. Most recently, the Resnicks committed $50 million in December to the create the Stewart and Lynda Resnick Sustainability Center for Catalysis at Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. That same year, the couple donated $750 million to establish the Resnick Sustainability Center at the California Institute of Technology.
