San Fernando Valley residents who live in the Los Angeles City Council Sixth District have until Monday, March 20, to register to vote in the April 4 special election to choose a replacement for former Councilmember Nury Martinez, who resigned last October due to her role in a leaked audio scandal.
Seven candidates are on the ballot, listed in the following order: Isaac Kim, Imelda Padilla, Rose Grigoryan, Marisa Alcaraz, Antoinette Scully, Douglas Sierra and Marco Santana.
They each want to represent Council District 6, which serves residents in Arleta, Lake Balboa, North Hills, North Hollywood, Panorama City, Sun Valley and Van Nuys.
Voter registration can be done online at lavote.gov. Applications are also available at most government buildings, including post offices, libraries, the Department of Motor Vehicles and L.A. County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk offices.
Those who register to vote by Monday will be sent a vote-by-mail ballot. Eligible voters who miss the registration deadline won’t have a ballot sent to their home address, but they can still vote in person at any vote center starting Saturday, March 25.
Voters can check their registration status and assure that their information is up to date by visiting the county registrar’s Voter Registration Verification webpage.
If no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote in April, the top two will advance to a runoff election on June 27.
