Fishing off the city’s iconic pier is a pretty San Clemente thing to do and that’s what several kids and their families did on Saturday to celebrate their community.
Part of the city’s San Clemente Day celebration was a kids fishing derby with young anglers dropping lines over the pier’s railings, many having to stand on tippy toes to see over and watch the water for activity.
There were awards for first catch of the day, the smallest catch, the most catches and a stingray with a 12-inch wing span won the largest catch award.
The event had been previously scheduled but was rained out; on Saturday things cleared enough from the previous day’s storm for families to bundle up and enjoy the morning fishing.
