Angels left-hander Aaron Loup was named as an injury replacement for Team USA on Friday, a day before the team plays its first game in the World Baseball Classic.
Loup is reportedly replacing New York Mets lefty Brooks Raley. It was unclear what injury is sidelining Raley.
Loup, 35, posted a 3.84 ERA with the Angels in 2022, the first year of a two-year, $17Â million deal. He has a career 3.15 mark, including a 0.95 ERA with the Mets in 2021.
Loup joins teammate Mike Trout, who is the captain of Team USA. Loup pitched a scoreless inning in an exhibition game against Team USA on Thursday. He has not allowed a run in either of his two Cactus League outings so far this spring.
