A single-engile Cessna aircraft had a rough landing at the Fullerton Municipal Airport on Thursday, March 9, when its back landing gear failed after touching down.
The aircraft was approaching the airport runway around 3 p.m. when the gear detached, causing the plane to skid for about 20 yards before coming to a stop on its belly, according to Fullerton Fire Department Battalion Chief Mike Meacham.
The aircraft did not catch fire after landing and the pilot and a passenger were able to exit without injuries, Meacham said.
Crews from Fullerton and the Orange County Fire Authority remained at the scene for about an hour to clear the runway.
