For San Fernando Valley and other commuters, repairs have begun to the closed W.C. Fields Drive onramp to the northbound 101 Freeway near Universal City. That’s the good news.
The bad news? Damage is so severe to a collapsed retaining wall that the onramp won’t reopen until sometime in November, Caltrans announced earlier this week.
The onramp to the 101 has been closed since November.
Until repairs are finished, motorists trying to go northbound on the 101 Freeway from W.C. Fields Drive can use the northbound 101 Freeway onramp from southbound Universal Studios Boulevard.
To get to the onramp, motorists should continue straight on W.C. Fields Drive, then turn left on Universal Studios Boulevard and follow the signs for the entrance to the northbound 101.
Or there is an alternate route.
Motorists can take southbound Barham Road to Cahuenga Boulevard, turn right onto Universal Studios Boulevard and then take the northbound 101 Freeway loop ramp from Universal Studios Boulevard.
In addition, construction work may require nighttime closures of up to two lanes on the northbound 101, plus intermittent nighttime closures on the 101 onramp from Universal Studios Boulevard.
Caltrans reminds all motorists to visit the Caltrans Quickmap for the latest road conditions and closures.
