A proposed $1.9 billion theme park expansion plan would allow Disneyland to build as many as four thematic icons towering 300 feet in the air — nearly four times the height of Sleeping Beauty Castle and more than 100 feet taller than anything else at the Anaheim theme park.
The March 2024 City of Anaheim Planning Commission Public Review Draft approved this week updates the Disneyland Resort Specific Plan and establishes maximum height limits for the proposed DisneylandForward project.

“The general intent is to establish a building height hierarchy in which most theme park elements will range from 40 to 250 feet high, with up to four structural thematic elements/icons that may be up to 300 feet in height to establish visual interest and orientation within the theme park,” according to the draft document.
The DisneylandForward proposal seeks to update a 1990s Anaheim city plan to allow for a mix of theme park, hotel, retail, dining and entertainment on the eastern and western edges of the Disneyland resort. The Anaheim City Council is set to vote on the DisneylandForward proposal on April 16.

Under current city guidelines, Disney can build one thematic element at Disneyland or Disney California Adventure that surpasses the existing 250-foot-tall height ceiling with a maximum height of 300 feet.
Under the DisneylandForward proposal, Disney could build two thematic elements at the existing theme parks with a maximum height of 300 feet.
Thematic icons have been part of the existing approvals for decades and the Disneyland resort has no immediate plans to construct new thematic icons, according to Disneyland officials.
