LAPD Officer Norma Eisenman confirmed three officers were shot and taken to a local hospital. She confirmed a suspect, a male, was barricaded. SWAT resources were called to the scene in LAPD’s Hollenbeck area in northeast Los Angeles.
Information on the officers’ conditions, or information on the circumstances of the shooting, was not immediately available.
A perimeter was set up near North Mission Road and North Broadway. Broadcast reports from the scene around 7:50 p.m. showed an LAPD helicopter was announcing to residents about the situation, telling them to stay indoors with their doors locked.
In a Tweet, LAPD’s Central Division said “This is every law enforcement’s nightmare. We ask for your thoughts and prayers for our injured officers.”
I am monitoring the situation unfolding in Lincoln Heights where three LAPD officers have been shot — praying that they are not life threatening injuries. I’m keeping them and their loved ones in my thoughts. I hope that the suspect is soon apprehended and brought to justice.
