Results in the race for the 71st Assembly district Tuesday night show Kate Sanchez in the lead with Gary Kephart and Babar Khan trailing.
Sanchez led in both Orange and Riverside counties as returns came in Tuesday.
“Voting is one of the greatest privileges we have as Americans and today, the people spoke with confidence,” Sanchez said after the first round of votes were reported. “I am looking forward to continuing this momentum through the General Election and being sworn in once again in Sacramento. Sanchez was first elected to the seat in 2022 after narrowly defeating Matt Rahn. Sanchez says that the state needs to “aid in securing our southern border” and “crackdown on international crime networks and cartels that funnel fentanyl and other dangerous drugs into our communities.”

Khan’s top three budget priorities are “health, education and law enforcement,” but he wants to see an Assembly task force created that can catch where fraud might be in these respective fields.
