Plenty of rain kept the ground wet this month, but we managed to slog through the mud and celebrate Valentine’s Day, Ash Wednesday and Leap Day.
As the month opened, The Orange County Black History Parade marched through Anaheim the same weekend runners hit the street at the Surf City run in Huntington Beach.
Down in San Onofre, a washed out road and expiring lease added to concerns about surfers access to the beach. Surfers and countless beachgoers with fond memories of the tucked-away oasis have been in shock over the access road washing out recently at the popular beach wedged between San Diego and Orange County, a place so coveted that people wait hours in line to get a parking spot right on the sand on summer days – or any time a swell hits.
Costa Mesa saw a bit of national politics as Presidential candidate Nikki Haley showed up at Goat Hill Tavern to press the flesh and greet supporters.
With Ash Wednesday falling on Valentine’s Day, faithful found ways to celebrate love; the day for lovers was in full swing as young dancers swung each other at a Valentine’s Day Talk and Dancing at Holy Family Catholic Church in Orange, while older lovers where swooning each other during the Meals on Wheels Orange County Valentine’s Day party at the Southwest Santa Ana Senior Center in Santa Ana.
As some enjoyed the love on February 14th, others had their foreheads marked for Ash Wednesday.
On the sand, The Pacific Air Show demonstrated how small planes could land on the sand to bring the aircraft closer to the people during their revamped five-day event schedule at the end of September.
