Two suspects have been arrested in the shooting death of a volunteer last summer following an event at the Wilmington Recreation Center, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
Jose Quezada, 46, of Carson was fatally shot about 10 p.m. on July 27, 2023, after “Summer Night Lights” at the recreation center in the 300 block of North Neptune Avenue, the LAPD said.
Details of the arrests were expected to be released at a news conference on Thursday, Feb. 8, at the Los Angeles Police Department’s Harbor Station in San Pedro.

Quezada was killed when leaving the event, according to police. The suspects have been described publicly only as males wearing dark clothing.
“Our victim, who was a cook here, just exited and was here on the street when he was approached by unknown suspects who fired rounds at him,” LAPD Capt. Keith Green told KTLA5 following the crime. “Our victim was struck by gunfire.”
A motive for the shooting was not known, police said at the time.
“Summer Night Lights” events are held in more than 40 Los Angeles and nearby parks and recreation centers to promote anti-gang violence and turn the facilities into safe havens for families.
