There is a saying in Laguna Beach that half the town participates in the annual Patriots Day Parade and the other half watches.
On Saturday, March 4, the streets of Forest Avenue were lined with flag-waving folks out to watch the parade, which in its 56th year featured honored Patriot Maj. Erin Bevacqua, a Laguna Beach High School graduate who is based at Camp Pendleton.
Others in the parade included Toni Iseman, who in December left the dais after serving on the Laguna Beach City Council for six terms. Iseamn was this year’s grand marshal.
Ken Aubuchon was Citizen of the Year, and Kira Moore and Chris Hemsley were Junior Citizens of the Year. Artist of the Year was Randy Morgan and Athletes of the Year were the Laguna Beach Little League Intermediate All-Stars.
The parade, a truly small-town event, started on Park Avenue at Laguna Beach High School went down to Glenneyre Street and proceeded to Forest Avenue, where it ended up in front of City Hall.
Parade entries ranged from civic and veterans organizations to school bands, floats, vintage automobiles and novelty groups.
