The Rose Parade’s three-pronged array of “mid-parade” performances is now known.
The Tournament of Roses on Friday, Dec. 22, announced that Emmy-nominated songwriter Alexander Star will perform aboard the Visit Lauderdale float.
Star, based in south Florida, is known for fusing music with social impact, and for collaborating with other “impact” artists. Star has performed in more than 10 countries and has helped more than 500 teens in foster care write and record music through his “Impact Songwriting” workshops.

He’ll be making an impact on Jan. 1, when he performs aboard the Visit Lauderdale, designed to promote Greater Fort Lauderdale while re-create the region’s “tropical paradise.”
Star’s mid-parade performance will come as part of a theme that focuses on the power of music to unite people: “Celebrating a World of Music: The Universal Language.”
Other performers will take to floats from different states to join in the mid-parade show.
Tournament officials earlier announced a mid-parade performance presented by Explore Louisiana, not surprisingly featuring a trio of Louisiana artists. Set to perform are Grammy-nominated Zydeco artist Sean Ardoin, Cajun fiddler Amanda Shaw and guitarist James Burton.
And on Monday, the Tournament of Roses announced that Straight No Chaser, the RIAA-Certified Gold a cappella group known for its array of reinterpretations of popular tunes, will sing those tunes aboard the Enjoy Illinois float: “Illinois – The Middle of Beats & Blues,” as part of the mid-parade performances.
The mid-parade musical shows along the route will be book-ended by an opening set led by Destiny’s Child icon Michelle Williams and “The Voice” champion Cassadee Pope. Williams and Pope will be joined in the opening act by “American Idol” alum David Archuleta and Los Angeles singer/songwriter/producer Rush Davis. They will perform on the Rose Parade opening…
