West Valley residents should get ready for ice skating and rink hockey. Construction of a much-anticipated year-round ice skating and roller hockey facility in Reseda is moving forward.
The Reseda Skate Rink broke ground in 2019, and now the $26 million project is in the final stage of construction, according to city officials.
“The concrete part of the building is heading up,” said Ashley Mashian, Los Angeles City Councilmember Bob Blumenfield’s planning deputy, during a recent public Zoom meeting. “Beams and the roofing are also being worked on. Still, the tent structure is scheduled to go up in March. Utilities are ongoing and most of them have been installed, which is very exciting.”
Mashian added, “We are looking at a winter of 2024 construction completion date with the project completion six months later.”
The highly-anticipated ice skating and roller hockey rinks will replace two parcels on Sherman Way that the city acquired for $6.8 million in 2018. There have been several unexpected delays since the project broke ground in 2019, Mashian said, but it keeps moving forward.
The ice skating facility will offer public seating and will include a 26,800 square-foot skating rink with an 85-foot by 200-foot ice surface, cooling infrastructure, ice grooming equipment storage, locker rooms for two teams, restrooms and office space.
The roller hockey facility will include a 60-foot by 120-foot rink with a shade structure and a 1,200-square-foot building to house related rink offices, restrooms and storage.
An adjacent parking lot will have about 125 spaces, according to documents filed with the city’s Department of Recreation and Parks.
The two rinks will be part of the Reseda Town Center plan that aims to transform that worn down stretch of Sherman Way with new retail shops, restaurants, apartments and a Laemmle Theatre.
