Real snow falls at Disneyland — not the fake soapy stuff

A brief burst of hail followed by a dusting of snow surprised Disneyland visitors who were prepared for the chance of rain under cloudy blue skies and the possibility of fake snow during the evening fireworks show.

Disneyland became a winter wonderland on Wednesday, March 1 as hail and then snow fell on the Anaheim theme park in the middle of the afternoon, according to social media posts.

Laughing Place blogger Mike Celestino posted a video to Twitter of snow falling in front of the Mickey floral portrait at the entrance to Disneyland.

“It’s snowing at Disneyland in Anaheim,” Celestino said in clear bewilderment on the video. “It was hail a minute ago in Downtown Disney. I’m going to call this snow.”

What started as a hail storm at Disneyland quickly turned into snowflakes in Fantasyland that fluttered through a blustery wind and turned to water as soon as the white stuff hit the ground.

Temperatures at Disneyland were in the mid 50s on the ground during the freak snowstorm — meaning that colder temps higher up in the cloudy blue skies were turning what would normally be rain into hail and snow.

The real snow shocked theme park visitors more accustomed to “snoap” — or snow-like soap bubbles — that Disneyland blows onto Main Street USA at the end of fireworks performances during the winter holidays or after “Let It Go” plays from “Frozen.”

The sudden burst of snow left Disneylanders dumbfounded as they stood in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle.

“I cannot believe I just experienced light snow at Disneyland,” wrote Amanda on Twitter. “My jaw is on the floor.”
