After pulling their retro pink and white trailer all over the Los Angeles area since 2020, the Creamy Boys have found a permanent spot to serve their sweet ice cream swirls.
“We’re so excited. We love this area and everyone we meet down here. We’ve had tons of locals asking us about it,” said Duncan Parsons, a New Zealand native who founded the pop-up ice cream shop that now has its first brick and mortar home in Hermosa Beach.
The new shop, a walk-up window located in an Art Deco building at 1136 Hermosa Ave. in Hermosa Beach, opened on Dec. 9.
The cheeky brand serves New Zealand-style ice cream, which is made by blending a base of vanilla with fresh fruit like banana, berry and strawberry. The ice cream is offered with dairy and non-dairy bases. They’re also known for their version of the famed New Zealand flavor hokey pokey, which is made with honeycomb toffee blended into ice cream with sprinkles.
“The style we do is very unique. We don’t know anyone else around California that does it. It’s as style that was invented in New Zealand,” he said. “It’s still a like a creamy ice cream but those fruit flavors are really fruity and rich but not too sweet and really refreshing.”
Since hitting the road a few years ago, they’ve served their ice cream at places like Smorgasburg in downtown Los Angeles, Fiesta Hermosa in Hermosa Beach, the Mar Vista Farmers’ Market and a summer pop-up in Manhattan Beach last year. Parsons said they hope to open other locations in 2024, but so far there are no specific plans for expansion.
And for ice cream lovers who can’t get to Hermosa Beach, don’t worry, the trailer will still be serving sweets all over the place since Parsons said he still plans on keeping the pop-up portion of the business rolling.
