Monterey Park was thrust into the national spotlight Jan. 21, when a dance hall in the San Gabriel Valley city became the site of a mass shooting that left 11 dead and 9 others injured.

COMPLETE COVERAGE: Monterey Park Mass Shooting

As the city has since worked to comfort, heal, and support the community and its residents, it has also been preparing for what’s next — the inevitable. The funeral services for those killed.

The funeral service for Valentino Alvero will take place at 10 a.m. Friday morning, Feb. 3 at Saint Stephen Martyr Catholic Church, 320 West Garvey Ave., the Archdiocese of Los Angeles announced Thursday afternoon in a news release.

Fathers Leo Ortega and Joseph Magdaong will preside over the Mass.

Details about services for the other victims have not yet been made available.

The shooting, the deadliest in LA County history, was carried out by 72-year-old Huu Can Tran, a resident of Hemet, at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio.

The motive remain unknown, and according to LA County Sheriff Robert Luna, it doesn’t appear Tran had any connection to the victims.

Monterey Park had been full of celebration that day, drawing thousands to a city celebrating the Lunar New Year.

This is a developing story. Check back for more information.
