LOS ANGELES — An innocent person was killed Wednesday when a burglary suspect crashed into their car after a high-speed freeway chase in the Broadway-Manchester neighborhood of South Los Angeles.
The pursuit began just after 1:30 a.m. when deputies from the Los Angels County Sheriff’s Department’s Lomita Station received a 911 call regarding a burglary in Rancho Palos Verdes and began pursuing suspects driving a white SUV and a black Porsche. At some point, California Highway Patrol officers took over the chase when the suspects drove onto the Harbor (110) Freeway, CHP Officer Michael Nasir told City News Service.
The suspect driving the Porsche evaded officers but the white SUV drove off of the freeway and crashed into the victim at Broadway and Imperial Highway, east of the Harbor Freeway and the Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway exchange.
Fox 11 reported three suspects jumped out of the SUV and ran away but were caught and taken into custody.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said at least two of the suspects appeared to be in their teens.
