A 31-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly burning an American flag at a house in West Hills, police said Tuesday.
Detectives took the man into custody around 10:45 p.m. Monday on suspicion of arson of an inhabited dwelling, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. He was booked at Van Nuys Jail and had bail set at $250,000.
Officers responded to the 23000 block of Welby Way, near Vanowen Street and Fallbrook Avenue, shortly after 7:55 p.m. Saturday to a report of someone igniting an American flag affixed to a flagpole before running away, police said.
Investigators from the LAPD Major Crimes Division and the Los Angeles Fire Department’s arson unit have been conducting an investigation since Saturday evening.
Police said the man has no prior arrests for arson, and it was determined that the alleged arson in this case was not motivated by hate.
The case will be presented to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.
