Coastal Country Jam has undergone a big transformation since it said farewell to the sun-soaked sands of its original location at Huntington State Beach in 2019. And it’s now starting to grow roots where the ocean meets the city skyline at Marina Green Park in Long Beach on Sept. 16-17.
As Steve Thacher, founder of Orange County-based production company Activated Events puts it, it really does feel like “the right time, right place for a new home.”
“Everything feels bigger this year,” Thacher said during a recent video chat. “But as a team, we’ve always known that this would be it (Marina Green Park). Its been on our list for longer than you’d think and fans are just ready for something new. We’re all ready.”
The two-day country festival by the ocean returns for its fifth year and will include headlining turns from Blake Shelton on Saturday, Sept. 16 and Tim McGraw on Sunday, Sept. 17. Shelton will be joined by recently added performers Brooks & Dunn, Dustin Lynch, Tyler Hubbard, Kidd G and Mackenzie. McGraw, who also headlined the event in 2019, will cap the event along with sets by Maren Morris, Scotty McCreery, Jameson Rodgers and Alana Springsteen. Luwiss Lux will open both days of the festival.
After original performer and “Wild Ones” rapper Flo Rida had to bow out due to scheduling conflicts, the Activated Events team faced a challenge in coming up with who else to invite to the party. They ultimately reached out to powerhouse duo Brooks & Dunn, a pair of country music legends who recently reunited and also got a massive crowd fired up at the Stagecoach Country Music Festival in Indio earlier this year.
“We really wanted to look at names that would be the most impactful and exciting to bring to Southern California and Brooks & Dunn was at the top of that list,” Thacher shared. “Being able to bring those guys out just adds an extra layer of excitement for us all.”
