Hope, happiness and healing, the goals of A Kid Again, were on the menu at Knott’s Berry Farm this week.
Several hundred kids with life-threatening conditions and their families were treated to a day at the park, courtesy of A Kid Again and its volunteers.
The national organization creates “adventures,” or group activities, for kids and their families to get away from the daily grind of treatments, therapies and the emotional toll that comes with complex medical needs.
Monday’s day at the theme park was the Ohio-based organization’s first at Knott’s Berry Farm as it expands in California.
Sixteen-year-old Abraham Perez, who is battling Pearson syndrome and kidney disease, was one of those kids attending with his family.
“Being able to forget about all his treatments for the day, all his medications, just let him have some fun and forget about having to do our normal routine of taking care of him,” Veronica Perez said of having the day at the park for her son. “He gets to enjoy today.”
A Kid Again puts on about 130 adventures a year around the country, which can be anything from movie nights and museum visits to professional baseball games and theme park visits.
