The Queen Mary has long been rumored to be haunted as guests and staff have reported sightings of the ghosts of former passengers and crew members roaming throughout the nearly century-old vessel.
These ghost sightings and creepy tales have inspired many to visit the ship, which remains moored in Long Beach. It’s also been the perfect spot to host extra spooky Halloween events like the long-running Dark Harbor and the new Shaqtoberfest Halloween Festival.
Now, these spirits have inspired Hollywood producers as a new supernatural horror-mystery titled “Haunting of the Queen Mary,” which was filmed on the ship itself, is set to hit theaters this month. According to producer Brett Tomberlin, the ghosts may have been having a little fun with his crew onboard since there were a few unexplained incidents that occurred while filming.

“I’ve been to a lot of haunted locations. My last film was ‘Winchester’ and I walked through the Winchester house all the time and I didn’t feel anything. But the Queen Mary, it definitely feels like something is watching you,” Tomberlin said during a recent interview. The film is directed by Gary Shore, who also helmed 2014’s “Dracula Untold.” It hits select theaters and on demand platforms on Friday, Aug. 18.
“The film is basically about all the legends and myths incorporated within the ship, everything from the lady in white, to the pool as a portal and an explanation as to why the Queen Mary has actually been an unsinkable ship throughout all these years,” Tomberlin explained.
“Haunting of the Queen Mary” is the first of a trilogy of horror movies planned by the producers based on the former cruise liner’s ghost stories.
