French luxury design house Hermès will anchor the former Sears building at Westfield Topanga mall, according to a representative with the mall’s owner Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, or URW.
The recently opened Westfield Topanga expansion will feature a 7,500-square-foot Hermès boutique along with a line-up of over a dozen luxury retailers including Bottega Venetta, Bvlgari, Celine, Dior and Saint Laurent.
The new wing known as Topanga Social will connect the mall and the Village in Warner Center, which has become a shopping destination thanks to its proximity to upscale communities, including Calabasas and Hidden Hills.
Construction of the new wing, which connects the mall with the Village, started in 2020. The project has turned the 160,000-square-foot property into a walkable sprawling entertainment complex with upscale stores, food court and restaurants.
The former Sears building at 6600 Topanga Canyon Blvd. was acquired by Westfield Corp. in 2015, a couple of years before the company was acquired by URW, and has remained dormant until 2020 when the mall owner announced its plans to turn the property into “a new front door for Topanga.” The mall already has a list of luxury boutiques, including Neiman Marcus, Gucci, Salvatore Ferragamo and Louis Vuitton.
The property sits next to the 34-acre Promenade development site, which URW sold last year to a private investment group that includes Rams owner Stan Kroenke’s company for $150 million. Kroenke also owns the 13-story building formerly occupied by health insurer Anthem Inc.
In December, URW sold the Village in Canoga Park to Kroenke for $325 million.
The acquisition sparked speculations that the Rams owner was planning to build an entertainment district similar to the 90-acre Dallas Cowboys complex that encircles the Cowboys’ headquarters and practice facilities in Frisco, Texas.
