The Winnetka Pacific Theatres multiplex site in Chatsworth will be transformed into a Tesla delivery hub and service center, according to real estate data firm CoStar Group.
Tesla filed for a permit earlier this year to demolish the interior and exterior of the 118,000-square-foot multiplex theatre, retail and fitness center to make way for a new automotive repair and service center, according to documents filed with the Los Angeles City Planning Department.
The new facility will serve as a car delivery and customer pickup center.
The existing structures would be replaced by three buildings totaling 273,500 square feet and an adjacent lot, according to city documents.
“It’s a testament to the growth of Tesla and the Los Angeles region that they would take on that type of space and feel the need to service that many vehicles in the San Fernando Valley,” said Stuart Waldman, president of the Valley Industry & Commerce Association.
He added that Chatsworth is a good area to open a Tesla delivery center because “you can get land for fairly cheap.”
The beloved Winnetka Pacific Theatres at 9201 Winnetka Avenue closed its doors in 2020 amid the pandemic. Pacific Theatre recently said it was filing Chapter 7 to liquidate its assets.
Tesla already has showrooms across the region in Burbank, Santa Monica, Van Nuys and Agoura Hills as the company continues its expansion amid surging sales. The Chatsworth location will serve as a car delivery center.
