Things are really heating up in Brea Downtown and I don’t mean the hot weather.
The former Tower Records building looks ready to breathe new life into Brea Downtown, now that UFC Gym is moving in and renovating the former book and record store into a state-of-the-art, humongous gym.
So far, big changes to the building’s exterior hint at what’s coming. It is amazing what fresh paint, a new color scheme and finally removing the old Tower sign did to the place. The soft gray hues look fresh, modern and classy. Maybe it is time for city to repaint the ugly orange parking structure behind it.
The gym’s owner, Slava Vilshtein, said soon its logo would be atop the building where the Tower sign once was. They have colorful graphics planned for the exterior too.
I recently toured the building with Vilshtein and General Manager Erika Sandoval. At present, the 27,903-square-foot structure is a construction zone, but what has been done so far is impressive.
For one, the gym entrance was moved to the rear, facing the parking structure. Seems smart to have the entrance near the parking structure instead of on Brea Boulevard. No doubt some gym goers would have opted to park in the Gateway Center and cross Brea Boulevard to reach the front entrance.
And the new entrance is a showstopper. Much of UFC Gym has octagon designs, and the new front entrance has a huge and lighted octagon structure above the reception desk area. That area will also have a smoothie bar, UFC GYM store and other amenities in that area.
The main level will also include a recovery center with massages, red-light therapy, cryotherapy and more to ease those sore muscles of workout warriors.
Also on main level is a boxing/wrestling ring, large, glass-enclosed area for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, plus group exercise area and other workout options.
The upper level is accessed by stairs or elevator, no more escalator that a lot of us remember from Tower. That level will be filled with exercise machines…
